WRITING THE HISTORY OF ILASS

We are writing the History of ILASS Americas, Europe, and Asia. All members of ILASS are requested to submit their ‘stories’ about the following: First attendance at an ILASS Conference and subsequent attendances at conferences; establishing friendships with colleagues which subsequently led to change in careers in Universities and Industry, including association with distinguished members of ILASS. Members who joined ILASS, attended conferences, presented and published papers that influenced their future careers and friendships, are encouraged to submit their stories. The writing should emphasize personal interactions and establishment of long time friendships with ‘comrades’ and with peers, which will provide interesting stories that will attract the attention of new members of ILASS, as well as the veterans who play leadership roles in ILASS. As a direct consequence of participation in ILASS Americas, Europe and Asia, and International Conferences, members have climbed academic ladders to be Professors and Distinguished Professors. Others established Companies for Design, Testing, and Consulting and became wealthy. Some members met, fell in love, married and have children as a consequence of meeting at ILASS Conferences. This year in May, ILASS Americas is celebrating the founding of ILASS Americas in Pittsburgh, where there will be a reunion of former students, engineers and professors from Carnegie Mellon University. For this celebration, 5 members from ILASS Asia will fly from China to present papers at our ILASS Americas Conference and participate in our “Reunion”.

Please send your stories to normanchigier@verizon.net. These will be edited and published on the ILASS History Website.
