Dr. Greg
Smallwood
became an ILASS member in 1992 due to his research on the internal structure of diesel sprays and his interest in communicating with other members of the spray community. He has been on the board of directors since 1994, serving five years as member-at-large, followed by twelve years on the executive and most recently becoming past-chair in 2011. Greg participates in the Automotive and Diesel Sprays Technical Committee and the Spray Measurement and Instrumentation Technical Committee meetings. Greg wants to ensure members profit from the open lines of communication within ILASS.
Greg is Program Lead for Environment Monitoring Technologies in the Institute for Chemical Process and Environmental Technology (ICPET) at the National Research Council Canada (NRC). He has made numerous contributions to combustion and nanoparticle research and is an expert in the implementation and application of laser-based combustion diagnostic techniques.
Greg holds office in several scientific organizations, including: vice-chair, board of directors, The Combustion Institute, Canadian Section; executive committee member, International Energy Agency Working Group on Energy Conservation and Emissions Reduction in Combustion; and program leader of the Panel on Energy Research and Development (PERD) Advanced Fuels and Transportation Emissions Reduction (AFTER) program.
